Basic Crochet Stitch Glossary

Here is where you will find step by step images of basic crochet stitches that every beginner should know!

     

    Chain stitch (ch)

    To chain stitch, simply yarn over (yo) and pull through. Do this for as many chain stitches as you need.

    Single crochet (sc)

    To single crochet, insert your hook into the stitch you’re working into. Yarn over (yo), and pull through. YO again and pull through both loops on the hook.

    Double crochet (dc)

    To double crochet, yarn over (yo), then insert your hook into the stitch you’re working into. YO and pull through. YO again, pulling through the first two loops on your hook. YO once more, pulling through the last two loops on your hook.

    Half double crochet (hdc)

    To half double crochet, yarn over (yo), then insert your hook into the stitch you’re working into. YO and pull through. YO again, pulling through all of the loops on your hook.

YO a second time, pulling through the next two loops on your hook. YO once more, pulling through the last two loops on your hook.
