3 Bible Passages to Study for the New Year
While nothing magically changes when the new calendar year begins, we can still start the New Year off with studying scripture. Here are 3 good Bible passages that we can study year round, but if you need to start fresh, New Year’s is a great time to begin!
1. Psalm 46:8-11
“Come, behold the works of the LORD,
how he has brought desolations on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the chariots with fire.
‘Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!’
The LORD of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.”
Psalm 46:8-11
This passage reminds us that although there are terrible things happening in our world, God will bring justice no matter what. When we trust in him, we can find moments of stillness and reflection in our busy lives. Trusting in God’s sovereignty allows Him to be exalted in our hearts and homes.
2. Isaiah 41:8-10
“But you, Israel, my servant,
Jacob, whom I have chosen,
the offspring of Abraham, my friend;
you whom I took from the ends of the earth,
and called from its farthest corners,
saying to you, ‘You are my servant,
I have chosen you and not cast you off’;
fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41:8-10
Although this passage is God speaking to Jacob, it still shows God’s steadfastness. This passage offers reassurance that God is with us, providing strength and support in times of uncertainty or anxiety.
3. Romans 15:13
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
Romans 15:13
This verse encourages us to place our trust in God, allowing him to fill our lives with joy, peace, and hope through the Holy Spirit. It’s a wonderful verse of encouragement that we can share with others.
Heading into the new year
When you put that new calendar on the wall and see all the months ahead, it can get overwhelming. Thinking of all the things that have to happen or might happen, planning out your family’s appointments and activities, or wondering how things are going to be by the end of the next year can be stressful.
As we head into a new year, which often comes with a new mentality with the desire to start fresh, make sure you’re spending plenty of time in scripture and prayer. With these passages and others, you’ll find that the God of the universe will always bring us justice, hope, and comfort.
God bless, and Happy New Year!
